C.S.Glass 0 Churchdown Parish 0 A.E.T. (4-3 Pens) Sunday Premier Cup North Final 10/04/2011

A SMASHING performance from C.S. Glass sees them through in a nervy and tired shoot out that had the whole ground guessing until the final kick of the ball.

A very tense game with both teams running and tackling for the whole 90 MINS. Then extra time , no bookie would of given either side favourite odds the whole time the ball was in play it was that close. Both teams had their chances to clinch the cup winning goal in open play but for a good save and the woodwork kept Churchdown Parish goal less and some good keeping kept C.S.Glass off the score sheet too.

That said most of the play going to Churchdown in the first half but they couldn't keep the pressure on and Glass kept a dogged resistance that would lead to periods where they were in control this seesaw of possession and defending was a treat for the neutral but a mangle for the fans and the managers the C.S. Glass manager  had to be told more than once to take a seat when the fourth official thought he had committed some pitch infringements. The fans where also feeling the pressure cooker atmosphere this caused some jeering between some, most of it good natured ,  not only was it the hottest day of the year so far but the match did threaten to boil over on a few occasions, once it did in the midfield  a Churchdown player seemed to follow through with a jumping tackle that caught the Glass player in the face he then reacted by grabbing the Churchdown player  and for a second or two it looked as if it could turn ugly with other players getting involved , but credit to the referee he was on the incident quick and seemed to break it up with out to much trouble both players getting a yellow card that neither could complain about. Second half still very well matched with C.S. Glass with a shade more of the ball than Churchdown but still no goals separate the two sides at the whistle, so extra time commenced after a short break.

The extra time came and went and penalties was the way it ended in this final a difficult pill to swallow for one team glory for the other but these two could of played all night with no score so it came as relief when the final whistle went , with C.S.Glass converting more of their spot kicks than Churchdown Parish {who had their chance to win it}but it wasn't their day a massive cheer from the fans and a pitch invasion followed the Churchdown Parish miss that confirmed the C.S.Glass victory of 4-3.

The score doesn't reflect the amount of effort Tuffley Tigers  put in especially in the second half when most of their midfield play culminated in some nice touches but the strikers never really got much to work with, the exception being  a first half chance that looked like a sure thing , if converted it would of kept them in with a chance of the points but it was blasted over and they never really looked like troubling Porkys again .

Porkys settled in control and seemed to be coasting, the defence didn't look like conceding a goal unless the Tigers strikers could come up with something special.

Porkys came into the game from the whistle with the midfield looking to set free the strikers with through balls they could  run onto and score which happened in the first 20 minutes, then not long after some confusion in Tuffleys defence let a  Porkys forward in to challenge the keeper and get nice headed goal this set Porkys on their way to  victory, next attack saw a through ball from the back pick out a runner  a nice bit of individual skill and a great shot into the top corner added the best goal of the match, became not a question of a win but by how many.

After the restart a penalty decision going Porkys way was converted then followed by another goal nicely taken this set the score at 5-0 even though Tuffley never gave up and had some of their best football again in the back through to midfield but the final ball never happened for them , the game was refereed to a high standard even though I have seen players walk for such a tackle the left back for Tuffley Tigers made, he went right through the back legs of a Porkys forward from behind taking none of the ball, it was out of character for the game as a whole which wasn't niggly or bad tempered and watching it again the yellow card was the right one in the end , this was the only really heated foul of the game and was out of frustration rather than intent, credit going to the porkys player who didnt make a meal of it..

The players with their names on the score sheet and entered into Aprils goal of the month are RYAN PARKER 2, FRED WARD, GARY ESSON, DEAN GOODARD
